Our approach

The welfare, development and engagement of our employees are central to developing a strong culture, with employee capability and motivation acknowledged as being central to the delivery of Paragon’s strategy.

Investors in People

We are an Investors in People (IIP) accredited employer. The IIP framework measures how well we’re doing at leading and supporting our people, compared to other organisations in our industry and of our size. In 2019, we were reaccredited with the IIP Gold Standard and we continue to maintain Champion Status, a recognised best practice status awarded to less than 1% of financial services companies in the UK.

Employee engagement

Engagement levels are monitored through external assessments and employee surveys. The most recent external survey conducted as part the IIP assessment in February 2019 highlighted:

  • a strong values-based culture
  • a clear people strategy built on high levels of empowerment and devolved accountability
  • a universal and strong sense of pride for delivering quality and high standards of customer service.

As part of this survey, 27 different themes were assessed and 100 out of 108 indicators were met.

A long-term outlook

Our strategic objectives are best served by building a stable, permanent skill base and we minimise the use of short-term and temporary staff.

Flexible working is actively encouraged across all areas, to promote work-life balance and make sure we retain the skills and experience of our people. We also monitor working practices to ensure that we comply with the Working Time Regulations to make sure no one is forced to work more than a 48 hour week over an average 17 week period. This includes the monitoring of any second jobs.

When responding to changes in our business, we always seek to minimise the requirement for compulsory redundancy, retraining and redeploying employees wherever possible.

Living Wage employer

Remuneration packages across the business are compliant with the UK’s national minimum wage rates. In addition, we’ve been an accredited employer with the Living Wage Foundation since 2016.

All our employees are based in the UK and we’re committed to upholding all aspects of employment law.
