Brief description

Are you an internal audit professional who enjoys a varied job where you get opportunity to learn and evaluate how different parts of the organisation operate and interreact? Are you good at identifying risks and making suggestions for improving their management?

If you hold a relevant professional qualification or are working towards one, and ideally have experience in financial services we want to hear from you. We would consider both full time and part time hours working Monday to Friday.

Purpose of the role

The primary objective of Internal Audit is to provide an effective third line of defence. To examine and evaluate the Banking Group’s risk management framework, to provide assurance on the effectiveness of internal control, financial conduct and prudential governance processes and to determine that they are adequate and functioning properly.

The secondary objective is to add value by identifying inefficient operations and providing cost effective recommendations to improve control and efficiency, or prevent loss.

Duties & responsibilities
  • Arrange and attend meetings with stakeholders ahead of reviews to discuss/agree the internal audit approach and scope
  • Review working practices and processes with stakeholders
  • Identify risks and assess controls for the areas in scope for each audit
  • Identify areas where controls could be enhanced and discuss audit findings with local and senior management
  • Produce high quality internal audit reports for review by the Internal Audit Director
  • Evidence that actions agreed in Internal Audit reports have been implemented or assess what progress has been made
  • Attend working parties, committees, discussion groups and advise on control aspects of developing systems/new business areas and acquisitions, as required
  • Check system and procedural changes as advised to Internal Audit, liaising with relevant areas in identifying control weaknesses
  • Ability to identify and assess risks and challenge processes and procedures in a constructive and effective manner
  • Ability to analyse and critically evaluate processes and data
  • Demonstrate effective challenging, listening, fact finding and recording skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally at all levels to influence management, exercising diplomacy when appropriate
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with business areas
  • Demonstrate a pro-active, self-motivated and professional approach with a commitment to learn new skills and grasp concepts quickly
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Paragon’s businesses

Qualifications and experience

Experience of performing internal audits, or experience of working in a financial or regulatory control environment is essential. A professional qualification or significant progress towards a professional qualification (accounting or internal audit) is essential. Previous financial services experience is desirable, and may have been gained on a client basis whilst with a professional firm.

Working knowledge of the appropriate regulation that covers Paragon’s businesses is desirable and being able to demonstrate awareness of emerging issues in the financial services sector and the relevant legislation/regulation.

Working hours

37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.00pm (one hour for lunch). Flexible. Part time hours based pro rata on 5 days considered.


Relevant training will be provided.
