Brief description

This is a new opportunity to join our IT department as a Patching Analyst. We are looking for someone with both the technical know-how and drive to join our patching team.

Purpose of the role

With the increasing volume of malware threats, it is imperative to ensure all IT services are patched to the latest levels to maximise our protection. While patching can be automated to some extent, a role exists to manage and maintain the automation as well as handling any out of line situations that may arise. As patching can be disruptive some of the work will, by necessity, occur outside of prime office hours

Duties and responsibilities

  • Understanding of, and familiarity with, patching mechanisms for operating systems and key applications whether on desktop or server. The list includes:
    • Windows desktop
    • Windows server
    • MS Office 365 and other Microsoft applications
    • VMWare
    • Ubuntu and SUSE Linux
    • SQL
    • Patching of numerous enterprise standard application including Adobe, Office etc.
  • Execute a test plan for operating system and application patching, driving issue resolution where required
  • Automate patching as far as possible to achieve patching SLAs
  • Troubleshoot patching and update problems and drive agreed remediation activities
  • Ensure full estate coverage, adding systems to the patch cycle or removing discontinued services as required
  • Take advantage of “auto-update” or similar facilities where available
  • Report on the progress of all patching and provide concise and meaningful management information and reporting
  • Follow core processes and procedures such as change control and incident logging
  • Keep appropriate records and update documentation or checklists as applicable

Skills

  • High degree of technical skills in both SCCM and AD for desktop and server environment
  • Good written and verbal communication skills adequate to convey technical concepts to a non-technical audience
  • Ability to liaise with other teams and third-party suppliers as required
  • Ability to write policies and procedures
  • Problem solving

Qualifications and experience

Previous experience in a similar role essential with strong relevant IT skills.

Working hours

37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.00pm (one hour for lunch). Due to the nature of the position there maybe a requirement for some out of hours work so flexibility essential.

Training

Relevant training will be provided.
