Through our community volunteer scheme, every Paragon employee can take a paid day out each year to volunteer for a community project. In 2023, we achieved 469 volunteering days.
We focus our efforts on supporting projects which:
Our employee volunteer scheme has helped us to build links with a wide range of organisations.
SIFA Fireside is a specialist centre in Birmingham, which provides regular meals, clothing and medical assistance to homeless people. Volunteers help with catering and other support tasks.
Paragon employees provide skills training, work experience and mentoring for Year 12 students as part of a ten-month partnership to encourage social mobility in the banking sector.
Volunteers work with the Canal River Trust, clearing litter and overgrown vegetation to keep the canal side in tip-top condition.
We foster strong links with local schools, joining in a range of careers days and helping students with CV writing and interview schools. In Solihull, we regularly work with:
Paragon volunteers from our Motor Finance team helped at Brays School, a school which supports students with special educational needs or education health and care plans. The team cleaned up the outdoor areas, including painting, planting and tidying.
Each year, we focus our fundraising activities on a Charity of the Year, voted for by our employees. This year it's Molly Ollys Wishes, a charity supporting children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.
Our Charity Committee regularly organises a variety of bake sales to celebrate events such as Pride and Black History month, encouraging employees to get involved with activities to support our Charity of the Year.
Employees get involved in a range of challenges to raise funds. From hiking to book sales, there is something for everyone. To fundraise for Newlife, our Change team climbed Scafell Pike, raising over £1,000.
In the 12 months to end September 2023, employees raised over £45,000 for Newlife.
Paragon, like many other financial services organisations, contributes to the Foundation for Credit Counselling which operates the StepChange Debt Charity. In 2022, we made a contribution of £642,000.
We also contribute to local charities throughout the year by way of single donations. In 2022, these contributions totalled £43,000. Our main objective is to support those serving the communities in which we operate. Most recently, we helped a range of local schools, sports clubs, hospitals and hospices, as well as charities including:
In 2022, employees filled 51 hampers with food and gifts on behalf of the debt counselling charity, Christians Against Poverty. The hampers were then delivered to families in the West Midlands area dealing with debt and in need of some extra care at Christmas.
‘Once again, our hopes and expectations were exceeded. All the helpers, when they saw the hampers, were taken aback by the care and thought that had gone into the gifts chosen and the way the hampers were being presented. It quite simply took our breath away.’
