Black History Month

October is Black History Month, dedicated to celebrating black history and culture around the world. Here at Paragon, we celebrated with a range of activities led by our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Network.

Pride at Paragon

Colourful and celebratory artwork

We collaborated with black artist, Olivia Glasgow, to create a colourful artwork installation over the entrance to our Solihull headquarters and gained some fabulous feedback from our employees!

“The artwork looks great! Looks set to be a great month!”
“It looks fabulous!”
“Looking forward to the activities during the month!!”
“So pleased that we've been able to showcase the work of a talented, young artist!”

Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Network fundraise for ACLT

Throughout October, members of our EDI Network fundraised for ACLT, The African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust, by walking or running the distance from Land’s End to John O’Groats. They raised over £400 for ACLT.

Black history month Educating our people

Educating our people

Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Network and Book Club shared recommended reading and resources with the Group for our people to learn more about Black history and related topics. We also heard stories from some of our African and Caribbean employees about their experiences and backgrounds, which were shared on our intranet.

Listening to our people

We hosted our first listening circle, in which members of our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Network and some black employees from around the Group met with two of our senior leaders to discuss racial diversity in the workplace.

Race at work charter

As part of Paragon’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that we are tackling barriers faced by ethnic minority groups in recruitment and progression, we signed up to Business in the Community’s race equality campaign, the Race at Work Charter, in May.
