Learning and development

We have a structured approach to learning and development and we are committed to helping our people develop their capabilities and achieve their potential. Our learning and development strategy is central to achieving the Group’s objectives and we provide a wide range of opportunities to help our employees perform well in their current role and support their future career aspirations.

Work induction

Welcome and induction

Everyone is offered a comprehensive induction when they join Paragon. This makes sure all employees get the opportunity to meet their team, learn about their role, hear from senior leadership and understand the full breadth of the Group’s operations, including its different markets, its customers and the regulatory environment in which we operate.

Personal development

We encourage all employees to draw up a personal development plan with support from their manager. The elements of the plan might include on-the-job training, online learning or attendance at courses and events, all tailored to meet each employee’s individual learning and development needs. This plan is reviewed at least annually.

Development programmes

Here at Paragon, we offer a variety of development programmes for employees. In 2021, we launched our first High Potential Programme and welcomed 28 learners from across the Group to the 18-month development programme.

At the end of the programme, we caught up with some of the participants and attendees on a programme self-reflection day. Watch the video below.

Online learning

The banking environment

Working in the banking environment means employees need to know about the different rules and regulations that we follow to make sure we support our customers properly. To help with this, all employees take part in structured learning throughout the year on topics ranging from vulnerable customers, data privacy and information security to money laundering and operational resilience.

Student employees

Professional qualifications

Development requires commitment and we actively encourage employees to complete academic and professional qualifications appropriate to their current role or their career aspirations. Whether part-time or distance learning, we pay 100% of the fees (including examination fees) as well as associated costs, such as professional subscriptions, with appropriate management endorsement.

Management and leadership

Managers and leaders can develop their capabilities with a range of structured programmes:

  • our Team Leader Academy and Manager Academy are available for new, experienced or aspiring team leaders and are accredited by the Chartered Management Institute
  • our Senior Leadership Development Programme offers support to individuals who show high performance and potential to become future leaders
  • we participate in the 30% Club cross-company mentoring programme which supports women’s career development by giving them access to mentors from other organisations

Managers share their experience of the Senior Leadership Development Programme and the 30% Club cross-company mentoring programme.
